Prescott’s Arizona Philharmonic (AZ Phil) debuted its new season artwork choice, “Sunrise on Thumb Butte,” by Prescott artist Dawn Zintel, at the Mountain Artists Guild’s art festival recently.

“AZ Phil was focused on finding a local artist for this season, as a way of supporting Prescott’s arts scene,” said Abby Coffey, co-executive director of Arizona Philharmonic. “We were taken by the unique approach and warm colors of the butte and chose Zintel’s work to represent our sixth season as Prescott’s Philharmonic.

Zintel, a lifelong artist and Canadian native, put her Bachelor of Arts in Education and Masters of Arts in Educational Technology degrees to good use, founding and operating two adult-training companies. Working with Fortune 100 and pre-IPO companies in the U.S., Canada and the UK, she helped them design creative employee training programs and learning games throughout her 34-year career, according to a news release.<br />

Retiring to Prescott in 2017, she discovered the Mountain Artists Guild and has had many successful exhibits there. “I think of my work as visual storytelling, and like to use color to brighten a viewer’s world,” Zintel stated.

“We decided that her vibrant use of color on Prescott’s iconic Thumb Butte was just what AZ Phil wanted to illuminate our sixth season,” Coffey added.
