The Central Arizona Concert Band (CACB) presents the final concert of the regular 2023-24 season with its Spring Concert on Sunday, April 14, at the Davis Learning Center on the Embry-Riddle campus, 3700 Willow Creek Road, Prescott. Downbeat is at 3 p.m.
Music Director and Conductor Clydene Dechert has again crafted an exciting program of with the usual variety of musical styles. Starting off the concert will be a rousing march, Lights Out, by Earl McCoy but in true Sousa-esque fashion, a news release stated.
Next is a pair of folk songs selected from the rich traditions of the Cajun culture in a faithful representation of the original melodies before they were commercialized. Alfred Reed’s The Hounds of Spring is a concert overture characterized by the composer as, “A desire to capture the dual elements of youthful jauntiness and the innocence of tender love.”
On a lighter note, a selection of tunes from the 1965 Broadway production of Man of La Mancha includes the ever-popular “The Impossible Dream.” And still on the light side, there will be a selection of Frank Sinatra’s hits including “That’s Life,” “Come Fly With Me,” “Witchcraft,” and “Fly Me to the Moon.”
Seating is general admission and tickets may be purchased at the door. Adults are $12 and youth is $5.
As the CACB completes this final concert of the regular season, look forward to the summer season when it will once again present free concerts on the courthouse plaza. However, it is important to note a change to our regular schedule. Instead of the third Thursday of each month, the new dates will be on Tuesdays.
The concert for June will be June 18; the July concert will be July 23; and the August concert will be Aug. 13. All of the shows will begin at 7 p.m. Visit www.centralarizonaconcertband.com for reminders.
The CACB is a 60-person musical powerhouse with instrumentation from the woodwinds, brass and percussion families of instruments. The music it creates is amazingly diverse, from jazz and classical to movie soundtracks and marches too, all of which can easily be described as powerful, stirring and evocative.
