Under the Elks Productions presents an afternoon with the Mighty Cash Cats at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17, followed by an evening show at 7 p.m., with an opening performance from the Linda Ronstadt Experience, in the Elks Crystal Hall, on the third floor of the Performing Arts Center, 117 E. Gurley St.

The Mighty Cash Cats show covers all six decades of Johnny Cash’s music, including Johnny and June duets. This year marks the band’s 15th anniversary. The band’s members are Michael Jay on guitar, harmonica, bass and lead vocals; Leticia Blumette on bass, guitar and vocals; Oliver Thin on guitar, keyboards and vocals; and Tim MacDonald on drums.

The Mighty Cash Cats is the only Johnny Cash tribute band endorsed by the Cash family.

“They like my approach to it,” said Jay, the band’s leader. “One of his daughters sang with us a couple of times. Her name is Cindy. Kathy, one of the people that’s in charge of the estate, she’s written me several notes. The most recent one, she thanked me for keeping her father’s music and legacy alive.”

Jay’s approach to the tribute band is to make it as authentic as possible. “I’m not trying to do, like, a parody,” he said. “I narrate the show, based on the venue of course. I’ll be doing more of that in Prescott because it’s a listening audience. I tell the stories behind the songs, how it came about.”

On Jan. 28, the Mighty Cash Cats were inducted as a member of the California Music Hall of Fame in recognition of their outstanding contribution to California music.

Beer, wine and other beverages are available for purchase at the performance. All tickets will be General Admission and seats will be chosen first come, first served. The seating for this concert will be stadium style.
