The Elks Theatre in Prescott is hosting “Simply the Best: A Tribute to the music of Tina Turner” at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16. The event, located at 117 E. Gurley St., promises to be a celebration of the legendary singer’s iconic career.

Starring Jenn Cristy, a national touring performer and former backing vocalist/instrumentalist for John Mellencamp, “Simply the Best” aims to capture the essence of Tina Turner’s stage presence over her illustrious 50-year career.

“There’s only one Tina Turner,” Cristy said. “I try to just capture her love for the audience and her love for performing because I have the same connection to that.”

Eric Brown, Cristy’s music partner, will play guitar and backing vocals at the performance.

“He is a phenomenal guitarist,” Cristy said of Brown. “He’ll have a song or two during the show so I can go change into another outfit.”

Brown and Cristy have been performing their tribute to Tina Turner for over three years, hiring local musicians to support them on stage wherever they play.

“We just come out there and we hire Arizona musicians,” Cristy said. “It’s easier to travel with two people, but the talent out there is just fantastic. So, we get to make new friends. We played with these guys before. We played with them last year.”

Cristy, known for her dynamic performances, embodies Turner’s transformative energy and spirit on stage.

“It’s kind of fun to be unleashed and be able to just do whatever I want,” Cristy said. “I was a competitive swimmer, so I always joke that I’m trying to get back in the shape I was in when I was in college. It’s a big cardio workout. She doesn’t stop moving. I have to put in ballads so I can at least catch my breath.”

Cristy’s admiration for Turner’s music and performing style has led her to channel the legendary singer’s essence in this concert event. The show will feature popular hits including “Proud Mary,” “River Deep – Mountain High,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” and “The Best,” among many others.

“‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ is always fun because there’s this whole sing along section where it’s amazing to hear grown men just dive all the way into the part,” Cristy said. “It’ll be strange if people don’t know the covers that I do in the show, but if they don’t, hopefully they just have a fun time with the song. I definitely hit the big ones.”

Attendees can expect an electrifying performance as Cristy pays homage to Turner with a blend of her greatest hits and an eclectic mix of other favorites.
