The Yavapai Symphony Association (YSA) has awarded college music scholarships totaling $8,000 to four students from Yavapai County for the 2024-25 academic year.

YSA understands the importance of music education and the unparalleled experience of live performances of classical music. In addition to presenting its annual concert series for the past 57 years, YSA grants scholarships to talented music students from Yavapai County to assist them in pursuing music degrees — awarding more than $293,000 since 2009.

This year’s recipients are:

• Noah Eder (trombone), graduate program, Northwestern University, performance.

• Clayton Hinton (violin), Brigham Young University – Idaho, music education.

• Jayden Jenkins (double bass, bass guitar, piano), Berklee College of Music, composition.

• Jacob Muniz (clarinet), Arizona State University, performance.

For three of these music students, this is continuing scholarship support from YSA. This is the first year, however, for graduating Yavapai College student Jayden Jenkins, a resident of Prescott Valley, who will be attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Jenkins has performed locally at the Jim and Linda Lee Performing Arts Center, Elks Theatre, and Prescott Center for the Arts, among other venues. He appeared with the renowned Folk-Legacy Trio and with various jazz groups in the New Orleans Trad Jazz Camp. Jenkins will represent the scholarship recipients as they are announced onstage at this season’s final YSA concert by the Phoenix Festival Orchestra on Sunday, May 26.

Noah Eder is a six-time scholarship recipient pursuing a master’s degree in trombone performance at Northwestern University.

“The Yavapai Symphony Association’s music scholarship program has been an essential aid in my years of studying music in college,” Eder said in the release. “It has allowed me to focus on my studies without worrying as much about the financial side of obtaining a music degree. The scholarship has made a tremendous impact by helping cover the cost of books, room and board, and tuition.”
